Adding New SKUs
In order to facilitate the entry of new items into your WMS account, please utilize the attached Item Master update file.
Please complete this file with as much information as you have. Using this form will ensure that data is transmitted in a format consistent with Datex's defined fields, which will help reduce the overall time needed to enter your data into the system and for your products to be received into the building.
Field Descriptions:
- SKU - Unique identifier for the material. If we are integrating the WMS with an ERP or shopping cart the WMS "SKU' should match how the shopping cart or ERP references the material.
- Description - A longer description of the material for reporting or identification purposes.
- Low Inventory Alert - The quantity at which you would want the material to show on the Low Inventory Report subscription.
- Shelf Life - (entered in days) The shelf life field is the number of days that the material can sit in the warehouse. If your material is not marked with a set expiration date the shelf life would set it to "Expire" a certain number of days after the receipt date.
- Serial Control - (yes/no) Designates if we should record serial numbers for the material at receipt and outbound shipment.
- Lot Controlled (yes/no) Designates if the material is lot controlled
- Packaging Levels - A Material can have multiple levels of Packaging set up, not only describing the physical dimensions of the Material itself, but also allowing multiple boxes to be stored in a container. For each packaging level defined in the WMS we will need to know the weight, length, width and height of the material. Please send the dimensions in imperial units (ie pounds and inches).
- "Ready to Ship Pkg" designates that the packaging level does not need to be overpacked. If the packaging level is designated as "Ready to Ship" then the small package label will be applied to that packaging level without placing the material in another "overpack" box. Please note that only one Packaging Level is required for each material but we can define up to four:
- Each - Most often "Each" is the base unit of measure for the material
- Inner or Bundle - the inner handling unit if applicable (please designate how many eaches are stored in the "Bundle")
- Case or Carton - Please designate how many eaches and bundles are stored per carton
- Pallet - Please designate how many eaches, bundles and cartons are stored per pallet. If the Cartons per layer and Layers per pallet (tie/high) is known that is helpful as well.
Updating Existing SKUs
There are certain SKU elements that can be updated at any point in time. For example, if you make modifications to an existing SKU and the weight increases from 4 lbs. per each to 5 lbs., this can be done at any point in time.
However, there are some changes that cannot be made to existing SKUs. For example, let's say you have a SKU that has 6 "eaches" inside of a "carton". Your manufacturer has changed the each count to 8 "eaches" per "carton". This new configuration cannot be setup with the existing SKU, but would need to be entered into Datex as a new SKU.
If you have an update to make and have questions about whether it would require a new SKU, please reach out to support at support@orbit3pl.com.
